This is the type of verse that can really challenge our nature when times are tough. It tells us to be brave and courageous by waiting patiently for the Lord. I don't know about you, but typically when I am in a situation where I need to be brave and courageous the last thing I want to do is wait patiently. I want to act, or plan, or scheme, or worry. But none of those things are examples of patiently waiting. Like a child I squirm and question wanting God to resolve my situation RIGHT NOW!

The true issue is that none of those actions show faith that our God has everything under control. They do show that we want to take charge and resolve our own problems, even when we don't have the power to do so. And even if we did, so often God has a greater plan because He is the only one that can see the whole picture.

For many of us, patience is a learned attribute. Like a muscle, we build it through resistance. The next time you find yourself in a challenging situation, pause, pray, and THEN act (or don't act, as the case may be.) Ask God for His guidance- is this a situation where He is empowering you to resolve it, or is He asking you to be truly and astonishingly brave by waiting patiently on Him? One thing you can count on, while our plans don't always work out, God's always do. Why don't you allow Him to prove it to you?
