Your Heart

Where is your heart today? Many times without even realizing it my heart becomes divided and distracted by many different things. I’m so busy thinking about my career, my singleness, that guy I like, that thing I want, that trip, and other seemingly important concerns. They fill my heart, my thoughts, and my day until they dominate everything and make me feel pulled in so many directions.

God never meant for us to feel scattered and distracted. Our God is beautifully jealous. He deserves and wants every bit of our heart. And we need to give it to Him - the parts we hold back are places where He can't provide healing, peace, and guidance.

Think about any strong relationship you have...is the other person satisfied with you constantly paying attention to or being distracted by other things when you are with them? Probably not, because love requires and thrives with attention and care. God feels it when we put our focus on everything but Him and He seeks for us to love him enough to set other things aside.

When I go after Him 100% He can guide me in the best way and help me avoid snares that will trip me up. He can keep me on the path of highest good because my eyes are set on Him. Even though He knows all things at every moment He isn’t distracted in heart or purpose. His top priority is to have a relationship with us. My top priority must be to know Him and bring others to this amazing relationship with Him. When I become aligned with God’s heart and purpose everything else in my life can become incredibly simple.

Today and everyday I have to look at the things that are dividing my heart. What have I unwittingly made an idol in my life as I seek them instead of Him and His will? How are these things keeping me from loving and living His commands which will give me true fulfillment? Only if I give those things to God, can He bring peace, success, healing, and vision to those areas! And He is so beautiful, why would I want to turn my eyes on anything else?
