Your New Story

Did you know that your past doesn’t have to define your future? For a long time I didn’t believe this. I thought I would always be the poor, shy, uneducated, unaccomplished girl hiding in the corner to avoid being noticed and when noticed, unloved.

One of the greatest days of my life was when God showed me that while those things might have felt like my reality, they weren’t my identity. That together, we could write an amazing story. And we are.

There are so many promises in the Bible about the way God transforms us, heals us, equips us, and empowers us. This is one of my favorites:

“And He who sits on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." And He said, "Write, for these words are faithful and true." Then He said to me, "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost. He who overcomes will inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be My son.”

‭‭Revelation 21:5-7‬

Living as a new creation takes bravery...every day. The bravery to really believe God is who He says He is, and I am who He says I am. To stand up and let my voice be heard. To not worry what people think. To share His truth with others. To learn that I don’t have to spend my time hiding my past, that I can actually celebrate how far I’ve come.

Every day I have to decide to let God write a new story on my heart and in my life. This isn’t about me pulling myself up by my bootstraps, washing my face, and through the power of positive thinking magically changing my thoughts and my life. This is about Him doing His work in me. It’s about me allowing Him to see into the deep crevices of my heart and speak life and joy...and trusting Him enough to hear Him when He does. It’s a partnership, and we can be co-authors. The partnership can be beautiful, and He is the best writer of happy endings there has ever been. So what do you say, are you ready to hand Him the pen?
